Detoxification

I learned when you cut out things like white sugar, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and preservatives; you may experience temporary withdrawal-type symptoms such as headaches, flu-like ailments, and increased carbohydrate cravings, less energy, mood swings, or even temporary changes in bowel habits. This may also happen due to the increased cleansing of toxins from the body. This “detox” reaction (as it is sometimes called) is usually short-lived and is an indication that your body is getting rid of toxins. Make sure to increase your water intake, and if your body is telling you to rest, it is best to do so.

What is detoxification?

Detoxification is one of the more widely used treatments and concepts in alternative medicine. It is based on the principle that illnesses can be caused by the accumulation of toxic substances (toxins) in the body. Eliminating existing toxins and avoiding new toxins are essential parts of the healing process.

Purpose of Detoxification

Detoxification is helpful for those patients suffering from many chronic diseases and conditions, including allergies, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, chronic infections, depression, diabetes, headaches, heart disease, high cholesterol, low blood sugar levels, digestive disorders, mental illness, and obesity. It is helpful for those with conditions that are influenced by environmental factors, such as cancer, as well as for those who have been exposed to high levels of toxic materials due to accident or occupation.

Detoxification therapy is useful for those suffering from allergies or immune system problems that conventional medicine is unable to diagnose or treat, including chronic fatigue syndrome, environmental illness/multiple chemical sensitivity, and fibromyalgia. Symptoms for those suffering these conditions may include unexplained fatigue, increased allergies, hypersensitivity to common materials, intolerance to certain foods and indigestion, aches and pains, low grade fever, headaches, insomnia, depression, sore throats, sudden weight loss or gain, lowered resistance to infection, general malaise, and disability. Detoxification can be used as a beneficial preventative measure and as a tool to increase overall health, vitality, and resistance to disease.

Detoxifying the body should become a household routine!

Detoxification is becoming a household word. A good body detox should be a standard part of any preventative medicine protocol as well as the means to treat chronic illness and disease. If a person is experiencing disease or chronic illness, they have been creating the environment for that to happen for quite a long time. There are many aspects as well as methods to proper and safe detoxification.

As we clean our homes, we must take care of our body’s purity too. Most of us have some basic cleaning strategies, yet often twice a year we clean the house from inside out. Once in the spring and once in the fall (at least that’s my schedule). When I do those main cleanings usually, I take care of spaces what I don’t clean on the daily basis, like closets, drawers, basement, reorganizing few things. When it comes to our bodies we should have some main cleansing strategies too.

One of the most important, yet often forgot body part is the colon.

The Colon

The colon is the sewer of your body. If it’s not cleansed, the waste from head to toes can’t get out. According to some estimates, about 70 million Americans suffer from bowel problems. These statistics cover only those people whose problems are severe enough to cause them to consult a medical doctor. The body’s tissues won’t eliminate wastes unless the colon is working. The bodily systems are connected.

When the colon is not cleaned out, the body will start pulling poisons out from everywhere, because it can. Wastes from the colon can leak out and pollute other organs. Other organs can be treated with natural methods–with only partial results–because these organs keep getting re-infected or re-irritated by poisons from the colon. The impacted colon creates diverticulosis which is hernia ions or pockets in the wall of the colon that contain fecal matter. If it stays in there long enough, it will leak into your body and cause what is called auto-intoxication. These diverticula’s cannot usually be detected inside the colon with colonoscopy, but on the outside of the colon where you can’t see. The bowel pockets leak pus, blood, and fecal matter back into the bloodstream.

When the body is toxic, the cells cannot receive nutrients from the blood because the interstitial fluid surrounding the cells is plugged-up with wastes from sluggish lymphatics. This internal poisoning also causes mental depression and morbid thoughts. It’s a vicious cycle–one condition feeding the other like a dog chasing its tail.

Most people, instead of cleaning out their colons use incense, air wicks, underarm deodorants, foot powder, mouthwash, toothpaste, breath fresheners, perfumed sprays and colognes to cover up their stink because they are filled with impacted fecal matter. If the colon doesn’t get cleansed, the other organs can’t cleanse their waste. If a person can’t get the bowels cleaned out, even if they clean the plaque out of the arteries–it’s going to go back into the body. They’ll just re-absorb it. Unless they clean out the colon, they will never regain vibrant health.

Eliminating White Sugar

Eliminating sugar from the diet may make a person feel slightly nervous and hyperactive until the energy levels adjust to a raw-food diet. Mood changes, however, are usually more noticeable than any physical symptoms when sugar is eliminated. Reformed sugar addicts may feel periods of unaccountable depression as their blood sugar level tries to right itself. Getting off the sugar roller coaster, with its rapid rises and falls in blood sugar levels, is easier when a raw-food diet high in salads and avocados is followed.

Weight Loss

Weight loss is entirely normal after cleansing the colon, eliminating toxins and going on a predominantly healthy raw-food diet. Some individuals become alarmed when their weight falls rapidly. From five to fifteen pounds of water alone may be lost when the body releases toxins, as the body doesn’t need it to dilute those toxins anymore. In some individuals, five to twenty pounds of fecal matter is completely eliminated from the colon.

The body will eliminate all diseased tissue in an effort to rebuild a healthy body. It will strip itself down to the bare foundations and then begin to add on only healthy tissue. Weight loss may occur for six months to a year. The body will then rebuild healthy tissue and the body weight will normalize itself. Exercise for muscle growth, such as rebound exercise, will help rebuild the body with lean, muscular tissue. Eating large green salads with avocados will help you gain weight. Also, consuming plenty of the healthy oils will increase the body’s mass.

Almost all the symptoms experienced during a transition to a healthy diet are due to the body’s effort to detoxify itself as rapidly as possible. You can help this process by fasting, juicing, rebounding, contemplative thought, and getting plenty of rest and sunshine. Have faith in yourself!
